Course Schedule

The course consists of 12-14 weekly meetings, totaling approximately 50 tuition hours. 8 CEU’s are also given for those completing the course.

Location

The course will take place at an unknown location in Jerusalem as the place we are using is changing ownership. It will be in either Kiriyat Moshe or Nachlaat (near Gan Saker).

Screening Process

Acceptance to the course is predicated on filling in the application form and a personal interview with the course coordinator. You should be a woman interested in supporting another woman physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You need to be flexible with your personal schedule as well as in personality. Joining DONA is highly encouraged.

Size of Group

The group will consist of no more than 10 participants, in order to ensure a significant study process.

Cost

The course will cost 4,500 NIS. The fee may be made in three payments. In order to ensure your place you are requested to submit, soon after your personal interview, a deposit of 500 NIS. In the event of your canceling your participation more than a month before the course begins, you will be eligible for a refund; thereafter, this deposit becomes non – refundable.

Course Structure and Assignments

  1. Each study day consists of approximately 4-5 hours of lectures (some with guest lecturers), workshops, 9 videos, role play and activities. Usually from 9AM  - 2PM;
  2. Course material will include an 80-page manual with information on all aspects of Doula support, emotional, physical and spiritual, information for Doulas from the latest Midwifery Today, DONA and Childbirth conventions on positions, the 3 R’s, difficult labors, medication options, handling second stage, Cesarean and VBAC assistance, newborn and nursing, postpartum contact, halachic issues (Rov Berkowitz) and all about DONA.
  3. Participants are expected, in addition, to attend a childbirth education course (before the training), to read the 5 required books on birthing, and to attend at least 3 births within the next two years (see also www.DONA.org  membership requirements).
  4. During the course, participants are expected to write reviews on at least 2 of the 5 required books.

DONA Registration and Membership Requirements

Participants will be required to complete, in addition to the course, certain conditions of acceptance to DONA. These include:

  1. Certification Application Processing fee
  2. DONA Membership fee
  3. Birth Evaluation forms
  4. At least three birth documentations
  5. A written essay on the Purpose and Value of labor support
  6. Any other requirements / criteria as determined by DONA (see their website at: www.DONA.org
